The Artists
In "Reins," twelve artists of the sprawling West gather in a steel chamber to discuss themes of intensity, determination, sacrifice, and care. The "Reins" employed in forging meaningful relationships. Each artist probes the underbelly of intimacy, surveying the impact of geography, circumstance, and lived experience on one's modes of loving. Damp, sharp, or otherwise trying works from disparate cultures may oppose one another. Still, the collective finds the goal remains the same—achieving a genuine connection through resonance with all parties.
Within the interpersonal, a push and pull is inherent. Mutually developed language forms boundaries, and the juxtaposition between nurture and neglect is born. Fostering sentimentality framed by intention, we are left to decipher what lives in the unspoken. Leather cracks and friction breaks the skin- scarring. Nonetheless, we continue to get on the horse. "Love is not a static force but a continuous, improvisational dance, where egos soften and inner worlds expand." These are necessary functions through which we further develop our humanity. Often mirroring each other as vessels for care and escape, the collective faces the reality of the tensions and necessary sacrifice that comes with loving.
Featuring works by Mairin Amdal (WA), Milan Bobinac (AZ), Sarah Deppe (WA), Ronan Houston (WA), Morgan Leigh (AZ), Kaya Nieves (WA), Samuel Platten (AZ), Linnea Ross (WA), Philip Gabriel Steverson (AZ), rocki Swiderski (AZ), Lillie Walsh( WA) and Noelle Whitaker (AZ/WA), the public can expect explorations in ceramic, oil, plaster, video, mixed media, photo, ink, textile, large scale installation and found object.

The leather cracks and strains. There is no proper way to grasp this
thing. How am I to effectively express my thoughts if I not conveyed
through demonstration? I’m tired. Do you know what I mean?
Like….
deeply exhausted. Some days loving you is like
getting lost in a chapel. So beautiful and disorienting. Magnificent but
Bewildering. Do you see that figure in the corner? Oh, no.
I must be imagining it.
I thought I heard someone whisper, “ .” I tried to listen to the
wind howl. It's damn cold in here; but I’ll stay if you’re going to.
