Piggybacking the work done in “Reflection Altars” (2022-2023) in 2023, Whitaker took this ethos to the streets; hanging miniature mirrored altars around Seattle and other American cities by post. Whitaker reintroduces salvage to its original environment with reverence for its passersby. These small public installations intend to slow down daily life. On a walk, a mirror catches your eye. You slow, spend time with it, maybe take a photo or wonder where it came from. The game is won.
These works are not signed and intended to be ephemeral. Think you see one? Send it over. I'd love to see them with wear, from your perspective. Reach-out. oldleatherutilitybelt@gmail.com
