“Seen" is Whitaker’s offering for a new digital order—a place of vulnerability. In an increasingly commodified social landscape, Whitaker's proposal offers a promising alternative: a future where users embrace transparency, fostering a more authentic and engaging culture.
We gain access when we recognize that the digital persona lives in a duality, both permeable and shrouded in its public nature. Through one’s story posting, we are given a window to view the user. Whitaker proposes a return to roots, story posting as storytelling, facilitating a digital space true to its original purpose: connection. Authenticity that intentionally trades dissociated click-gratification for earnest community building.
