In “As The Desert ” (2020-2022), Whitaker builds self-portraits through the assemblage of matter. This collection of salvage-based objects and prints relies on materials sourced from or produced in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts to stand in for the artist. Through these means, Whitaker tells an honest story of self-discovery and isolation from the perspective of the desert and its dwellers.
